WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a Japanese Technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.
If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki is a natural, safe method of spiritual healing. A reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki practitioner / Esthetician
Rosalia Riello-Viana became a licensed cosmetologist-hairstylist in 1999. She attended Capri Institute of Cosmetology. It didn’t take long for Rosalia to realize that her passion was in skin care and make up artistry. In addition to facials, waxing and makeup applications, Rosalia also does Reiki.
In 2000 Rosalia attended Christine Valmy to further her aesthetic education. Rosalia has also worked in several corporate positions for two different well-known brands. She has been a sales representative for Paul Mitchell as well as worked in Research and Development for L’Oréal USA.
Eventually Rosalia left corporate and returned to a salon because she missed the rewarding opportunity to meet new people everyday and provide the services she was so passionate about - - helping others feel their best.
In the summer of 2009 Rosalia felt very strongly she should learn about Reiki. She became certified as a Level 2 Practitioner.
Shortly thereafter Rosalia was expecting her first child. By the end of her first trimester, routine testing results came back positive for neural tube defect. This was the beginning of Rosalia’s journey to fully understand the many benefits of Reiki.
Rosalia’s daughter was born with the most severe form of Spina Bifida, and at less than 24 hours old she required a major neurosurgery to repair her Myelomeningocele and shunt her Hydrocephalus. The doctors prepared Rosalia and her husband by saying that in the days following this type of brain and spine surgery babies cry from the pain and it requires several doses of morphine to help manage the pain.
Rosalia used Reiki on her daughter for the first time immediately after surgery and that’s when she truly realized the GIFT OF REIKI. Her daughter did not cry for days on end and the only medication she received for pain was the dose administered in the operating room.
The nurses in the NICU, many whom were Reiki Practitioners, came in to encourage Rosalia to continue to use Reiki on her daughter and trust in its benefits to support her medical and life journey.
Over the years Rosalia has not only used Reiki to complement her daughter’s medical and life journey but has also come to believe that this is her life’s work.
Rosalia describes Reiki as the energy of love passing from one human being to another living thing.
